To obtain a drug license, a pharmaceutical company must demonstrate that the drug is effective and safe for the ailment or condition being treated. They do this by putting it through clinical trials in adults between the ages of 18 and 65.
The Central Licensing Board (CLB), established under section 5 of the Drugs Act, regulates the granting of drug manufacturing licences.
In India, no one can start or run a medication or cosmetics business without first obtaining a licence from the appropriate authority.
