In 2015, Chief Minister of Telangana, K Chandrashekar Rao drew a lot of criticism when he announced the demolition of the IP block of this hospital. Later the decision was postponed due to heavy criticism and denial by historians/ activists. The Osmania Medical College, which is attached to the Osmania Hospital, was established in 1846 and is said to be one of the oldest medical institutes across the world.

The hospital provides treatments in the fields of Dentistry, Diabetology, ENT (Otolaryngology), General Medicine, Nephrology, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Endocrinology and Urology.

Some of the doctors who work regularly at Osmania General Hospital are : Dr.P. Krishna Malakonda Reddy (Cardiology) , Dr. Ramakrishna Reddy (Orthopedic Surgery) and Dr. Rakesh Sahay (Endocrinology).

However in the present scenario of this age old hospital is not considered as viable for patients due to its poor maintenance and lack of renovation.
